Published by the Kentucky Historical Society in Frankfort since 1903, the Register is the journal of record in Kentucky history. It regularly features book reviews and peer-reviewed scholarship on Civil War Era topics through multiple lenses such as race, gender, class, and the environment.
Founded in 1955 and published today through Kent State University Press, CWH is a longstanding outlet for general Civil War research covering all aspects of the conflict.
Published since 2000 by Taylor & Francis, American Nineteenth Century History is an international journal focused on the social, cultural, political, and military history of the United States in the "long nineteenth century." As such, it also features scholarship on the long-lasting effects of the events and ideas from that century. ANCH regularly publishes articles on the Civil War, Reconstruction, and race and slavery, including more than a hundred related to Kentucky and other Border States.
Jointly published by the Filson Historical Society in Louisville, the Cincinnati Museum Center, and the University of Cincinnati, since 2001OVH has offered peer-reviewed research on the people, places, events, and culture of the Ohio River Valley. With frequent articles and special issues focused on the Civil War, Reconstruction, and memory, this journal situates said topics within a regional context.
Published since 2011 by the University of North Carolina Press in conjunction with the Richards Civil War Era Center at Pennsylvania State University, JCWE prioritizes research and review essays which reveal new perspectives on the Civil War Era broadly defined.
